The Harwood Arms: Gastropub-grub at it's Finest

There's no doubt about it, London getting into winter is dreadful! If it's not the drizzle, it's the short days (and the dread of even shorter and more damp days to come!). These were the same thoughts I had whilst traveling along North End Road in the dark cold damp of night at 6pm, going past rows and rows of middle-eastern sprawl following TomTom towards our supposed destination. We hadn't hit the middle of winter yet and even in the car I was chilled to the bone!

So turning into Waltham Grove after driving most of the way through a very quiet dark street (thinking are we actually in the right place) what a comfort it was that we were met with the bright welcoming lights of The Harwood Arms.

Ex-Ledbury Chef Stephen Williams brings some of the best pub grub to the table, each with it's own comforting factors. Sensationally cooked Hereford snails with braised oxtail gave different textures and flavours (earthy, sweet, crispy, comfort food), to the very meaty deer platter (deer done many ways!), and even more enticing is the desserts selection: the sweet-creamy-crunchy-tartness of the Buttermilk pudding with Scottish Rasberries with ginger nuts, and Caledonian ice.

Now in 2010, The Harwood Arms has received a well deserved Michelin Star, amazing for a gastro pub. Congratulations Stephen!
