Tatsuya: Japanese Sushi/Sashimi Heaven in Singapore

Having moved 3 years ago from the warmer climate waters of the Asia-Pacific to the cooler climate waters of the UK you tend to get an appreciation (and at times an insatiable yearning) for the fresh flavourful seafood that decks the markets back in the southern hemisphere. In particular when you look at sashimi unless you target high-end restaurants (think Nobu), there is a noticeable difference in quality.

So in a recent trip to to Asia, we couldn't help ourselves but to stop by and have some of the best seafood that we could find. That seafood came in the form of Tatsuya in Singapore.

Tatsuya is nestled in the Goodwood Park Hotel, a short stroll from busy Orchard Road. It's by no means a huge place, sporting a small number of tables, and seats around a sushi bar. But what it lacks in size, is made up easily by the quality of it's seafood, sushi and sashimi.

Grabbing a couple of seats at the sushi bar in front of our sushi chef, we were witness to a sumptuous feast of the freshest sashimi imaginable  (the seafood is flown in fresh from Tsukiji Fish Market in Tokyo each day). The beef sushi is to die for, freshly seared with a blowtorch and served with an amazing sauce accompaniment.

Tatsuya is by no means cheap (coming up to SGD$200 per head) but considering the three-year seafood deficit and the quality of the seafood, it made it all the more worthwhile!
